Building technology by the movement, for the movement.
Formerly known as WorkIt Labs, TWL Tech was born out of the vision of Walmart worker leaders who recognized the need for technology built for and with frontline workers and organizers. In 2016, we launched our first product, WorkIt, a mobile app that used AI to help workers understand their rights, navigate workplace challenges, and access peer support anytime, anywhere. What started as a single tool quickly demonstrated that our worker leader founders were right — the labor movement critically needs worker-centered technology that builds worker power.
Our team combines deep expertise in software development with decades of worker organizing experience. As a nonprofit team born of the labor movement (incubated by United For Respect / Our Walmart), we partner with dozens of unions, labor centers, labor councils, worker co-ops and grassroot worker organizations to build technology that helps workers exercise their rights, organize their industry and access quality jobs. Together, these products have reached millions of workers across multiple industries and continents, helping modernize technology infrastructure for labor while ensuring that workers remain at the center. Our approach combines rapid innovation and learning, close partnership, and responsible use of AI to create technology that delivers impact for our labor partners, workers and their families. Our bottom line as a nonprofit is measured by stronger organizations, more empowered workers, and a labor movement equipped to meet the moment in this hyper connected, yet highly silo’d digital age.
Worker-centered technology built with and for the labor movement.
Member servicing and worker rights' education at scale.
TWL Tech's pro-worker AI chatbots give every worker instant access to trusted answers while reducing the burden on organizers and member reps. Our AI chatbots transform everyday worker questions into actionable organizing intelligence, revealing trends, concerns, and opportunities across your base.
Centralized grievance tracking for stronger contract enforcement.
Grievance Tracker helps unions streamline and modernize their contract enforcement. Membership reps and stewards can quickly identify potential contract violations, submit grievances with AI assistance, and ensure every case is tracked in one centralized system.
A digital hub for stronger worker protections.
The Enforcement Toolbox gives labor coalitions and worker organizations a shared platform to coordinate enforcement campaigns, prepare complaint letters, track enforcement interventions, and measure impact across organizations. It replaces fragmented systems with a centralized workspace built for collective action.
Turn worker stories into campaign wins.
Issue Tracker helps workers confidentially document workplace problems and transforms individual stories into powerful evidence for organizing campaigns. By identifying patterns across workplaces, it gives unions and worker organizations the data they need to win structural change.
Empower every member leader to organize in their workplace.
Equip member leaders with the information they need to organize their coworkers without exposing sensitive member data. Connected directly to your union's CRM, the Member Leader Organizing Portal makes it easy to identify coworkers, track organizing conversations, and grow your membership.
Organizing intelligence in one place.
Data HQ gives union staff a real-time view of organizing activity, contract campaigns, and worksite health across the union. Easy-to-use dashboards turn membership and representative activity data into strategic insights for organizing and campaign strategy.
Transforming gig work into good work.
The Good Gig Work Platform helps worker co-ops connect workers with high-quality temporary jobs that offer the protections of W-2 employment. Built in partnership with MLK Labor, it offers high-road employers an alternative to predatory staffing agencies and expands access to flexible work without sacrificing stability, benefits, or worker protections.

“We need to meet workers where they’re at. Now more than ever, that means on their laptops and phones. The development and integration of worker-centered technology has allowed us to innovate barrier- breaking access to unionized positions in the Greater Seattle area. We are proud to be collaborating with The Workers Lab’s technology team on our UnionHiringHall.org project.”
– Rigo Valdez, Presidents’ Organizing Initiative Coordinator, MLK Labor Council
