2026In partnership with MLK Labor Worker Innovation Center
A union-backed staffing platform turning temporary gigs into quality W-2 jobs.
In 2026, TWL Tech partnered with the MLK Labor Worker Innovation Center to launch UNtemp, a union-backed staffing platform created to solve one of the biggest challenges facing temporary work: workers are too often forced to choose between flexible schedules and quality jobs. Built for worker cooperatives and piloted during the FIFA World Cup, UNtemp transforms temporary gigs into flexible W-2 positions backed by union standards, while giving administrators the tools to efficiently dispatch workers, manage schedules, and automate operations. During the FIFA pilot, the platform facilitated 272 job placements for 46 workers who earned between $24/hour and nearly $38/hour. UNtemp demonstrates that the future of gig work doesn't have to be a race to the bottom. By embedding worker voice, union standards, and cooperative ownership directly into the platform, it proves that we can create a fundamentally different model for the future of gig work—one where flexibility no longer comes at the expense of quality jobs, fair pay, or access to benefits.
2025In partnership with SEIU 503
AI-powered member service giving unions instant answers and real-time insight.
In 2025, TWL Tech partnered with SEIU 503 to launch CIRCUIT, an AI-powered member service platform designed to solve a growing challenge for unions: staff spending countless hours answering repetitive questions about contracts, benefits, and workplace rights. CIRCUIT gives members instant access to trusted, curated answers while providing the union with real-time visibility into the issues members care about most. Since launching for SEIU 503's homecare workers, the platform supported more than 3,700 member conversations in its first six months and averaged 21 new membership sign-ups per month via an embedded join link. The platform's success in increasing organizational capacity has led SEIU 503 to expand CIRCUIT to all members and partner with TWL Tech to deploy a second AI assistant for Member Assistance Representatives.
2025In partnership with UFCW 3000
Turning thousands of understaffing reports into a 97% strike authorization.
In 2025, TWL Tech partnered with UFCW 3000 to launch No Grocery Lines, a public-facing digital platform that enabled grocery workers and customers to document chronic understaffing across more than 350 grocery stores in the Pacific Northwest. By collecting real-time reports of long checkout lines, empty shelves, and other signs of inadequate staffing, the platform transformed thousands of individual experiences into actionable organizing data. In its first two months alone, more than 2,650 reports were submitted, creating a powerful, public record of the staffing crisis. The aggregated data helped reframe understaffing as a systemic issue affecting both workers and shoppers, generating public awareness and pressure on employers and ultimately resulting in a 97% strike authorization vote. No Grocery Lines equipped union negotiators with compelling, real-time evidence that they aggregated and physically brought to the bargaining table to win major victories for members including stronger staffing standards, avoiding benefit cuts despite rising costs and aligning contract expiration timelines to bring together nearly 30,000 grocery workers across Washington State in a unified fight.
2024In partnership with MLK Labor Worker Innovation Center
Breaking down barriers to union employment for historically excluded workers.
In 2024, TWL Tech partnered with the MLK Labor Worker Innovation Center to launch Union Hiring Hall, a workforce platform designed to break down barriers to union employment for workers who have historically been excluded from high-road jobs. Rather than relying on the traditional union hiring hall model, the platform connects jobseekers directly with curated union job opportunities, prioritizing low-barrier positions and training pathways that lead to long-term union careers. Since launching, Union Hiring Hall has attracted more than 30,000 active users, hosted 1,400 union job postings, and supported 1,840 jobseekers in seeking out quality union employment. The platform has also become a critical tool for community partners in Washington State serving underrepresented, immigrant and refugee jobseekers, building a more inclusive pipeline into the union workforce.
2021In partnership with United Workers Union (Australia)
Worker reports that reshaped Australia's national aged care policy.
In 2021, TWL Tech (formerly “WorkIt Labs”) partnered with the United Workers Union (Australia) to launch Aged Care Watch, a digital platform that enabled aged care workers to anonymously report understaffing and unsafe working conditions at scale. In its first six months, the platform collected more than 6,000 worker reports, with 81% of participants opting into follow-up and 70% coming from non-union workers—creating both a powerful organizing pipeline and the largest real-time dataset of frontline worker experiences in the sector. The stories and data generated widespread national media attention and helped elevate aged care reform into a central issue during Australia's 2022 federal election. Following the election, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese echoed the campaign's central message in his victory speech, pledging to "fix the crisis in aged care." Aged Care Watch has also been recognized as a critical source of worker voice to push forward major reforms - a 15% wage increase for care workers, 24/7 registered nurse requirements, a new rights-based Aged Care Act - demonstrating how digital organizing technology can transform thousands of individual experiences into evidence that shapes public debate, policy, and industry-wide change.
2020In partnership with Chicago Teachers Union
An independent, real-time source of truth on school COVID exposures.
In 2020, TWL Tech (formerly “WorkIt Labs”) partnered with the Chicago Teachers Union to launch a COVID-19 Tracker that addressed a critical challenge during the pandemic: the lack of timely, transparent reporting from the school district about COVID-19 exposures in schools. The platform gave educators, parents, students, and community members a trusted place to report cases and safety concerns, creating an independent, real-time source of truth when official information was delayed or unavailable. During the 2020–2021 school year, the Tracker collected nearly 4,500 reports, providing the union with powerful evidence to advocate for stronger safety protocols, temporary school closures during the Omicron surge, and improved hybrid learning policies. The public visibility created by the Tracker also increased media attention and ultimately pressured the school district to launch its own public COVID-19 reporting system.
