COVID-19 Rapid Response
Gig and low-earning contract workers are seeing their livelihoods destroyed as the COVID-19 virus rapidly shuts down our economy. Workers without access to employer-based benefits are especially vulnerable. They’re in dire need of immediate cash for basic necessities; shelter, food, medicine, transportation, etc.
The Workers Fund is ready to accept donations and distribute aid immediately.
What you do now makes a difference. Every dollar makes a difference. Sharing information makes a difference. Please donate and share today. Every donation is tax deductible.
The Workers Fund is a rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic from The Workers Lab. Our previous and ongoing innovation to support gig and low-earning contract workers puts us in a unique position to help. We can get cash to people whose livelihoods have been stripped away by COVID-19 through Canary, a project incubated by The Workers Lab that provides a vehicle for getting cash to verified applicants quickly. We will work initially through an established partnership with Steady to identify recipients. We will finalize additional partners to expand our universe of recipients in the weeks ahead.
We all want to help.
The Workers Fund is accepting donations--big and small. Your donations will provide emergency funds for some of the most vulnerable workers. And it will happen quickly. A generous seed donor has covered our overhead, so every dollar you contribute will go directly to a worker in need. Now it's time to fill the pot.
Can you chip in by completing our Help Can't Wait form on this page? We’re all in this together, and we'll get through it together.
If you have any questions about accessing the funds, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Workers Lab gives new ideas about increasing worker power a chance to succeed and flourish. We envision a society in which workers are powerful drivers of economic, political and social transformation.
We have a proven track record of getting cash into the hands of workers facing a financial crisis. In 2019, we conducted a large-scale experiment to provide emergency cash transfers to workers. We did this through our Workers Strength Fund (WSF) a collaboration supported by Commonwealth, The Rockefeller Foundation, Google.org, Rachel Schneider, a consumer finance and economics author, and Dr. David Weil, Dean at Brandeis University's Heller School of Management and former Wage and Hour Administrator appointed by President Obama..
Research shows that every share can result in thousands of dollars in additional donations. The more shares, the more workers we can help cover basic necessities during the COVID-19 crisis. Click now to share across all your social media.
